What happens to the bulk waste collected by Verge Valet?

People often ask us what happens to the items they put out for Verge Valet.  We went to find out.  They are delivered to a facility in Welshpool where they are sorted by a combination of people and machines.  It’s a bit like a simple version of the place where your yellow lid bin recyclables are sorted and processed. They retrieve all that they can from the waste but inevitably a proportion goes to landfill. This sort of recycling is aimed at retrieving materials for sale onto commodity markets; it is not aimed at reusing items. Click the image below for more information:

If you do want to make sure that your unwanted goods are reused, you can choose your reuser through your local Buy Nothing groups, online market places (like Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace) or even get in touch with one of the many charity collection agencies. There’s a list here.
